Education

“No country can really develop unless its citizens are educated. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela

The children and the youth are eager to learn – many of them walk, on average 4 to 7 miles to school to have the opportunity for education. Their young minds seem to sense that there is more exhilarating discoveries and exploration waiting for them as they learn about their world and see it opening up before their eyes.

Recognizing education as a preeminent systemic structure to usher hungry young minds into their bright futures, we work closely with our partners who share the vision of providing quality education, covering the entire scope of elementary, secondary, and higher education.

Constructing and remodeling facilities are part of the projects we undertake – as well as enhancing their education through technology and innovation.

Community Development and Self-Reliance

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime – Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, founder of Taoism.

“You cannot help people permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.” – Abraham Lincoln

Community Development is a step above the basic building foundation of individual and family. However, where widespread epidemic-type problems exist to the extent that they funnel down to families and individuals, inhibiting growth upward, and large swaths of people are affected, the building component begins with the community. It then becomes the intent that substantial overall change and benefits will flow downward to aid individuals and families in their struggle toward self-reliance. WASH is an excellent representative of this process where a trickling down is necessary for a push up.

It is difficult for anyone caught in a cyclical pattern of intense poverty -- where even their fundamental needs are denied them, such as clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. The lack of healthy options severely restrains their ability to pull themselves from poverty.

Another good example of the need for community-wide projects would be our initiative to strengthen families and support women and children. Dysfunction of families and the excessive handing over of many family roles to the female can preclude the female from gaining an education. As well, the violence and different forms of abuse that have reached a staggering percentage of women and children need to be addressed through outreach and community projects to implement policies and protection for the most vulnerable. Tackling the issues from different angles and positions can give additional strength and support to families and individuals.

Health

Both spiritual and physical health is needed for there to be present a complete healing of mind and body.

Riziki Foundation, as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and believers in Christ’s teachings and the spiritual nature of man, hold that health needs to be addressed physically and spiritually.

It is our hope that Christ’s love will be manifested and felt among those of His children who face heartbreaking destitution in their life circumstances through our actions and ministrations among them.

Physical health is addressed through projects that begin at a very basic level. WASH is the building block that has to be built on for the acquisition of sustainable healthcare. Education is needed to teach behaviors consistent with good hygiene and sanitation practices.

Beyond WASH, we work with charities and health experts to provide additional information and means for people to receive care and improve their health –disseminating knowledge on how to participate in preventative care.

To energize individuals and families, communities, and nations, they need to have the opportunity to enjoy good health. Our projects strive to increase people's health through funding projects that work with the core of each health concern.

WASH

“Every action, no matter how small, is like drips on a rock—over time, they can carve a canyon through even the thickest, most immovable layer of rock.”
— Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action

“Remember that hope is a powerful weapon even when all is lost” Nelson Mandela

It's hard to imagine holding a container of water in your hands with particles of dirt and debris swirling around inside and then taking a drink of it.

The bouts of diarrhea and disease that might visit you at any time of day or night are even worse than taking that drink of water.

Reportedly, only 59% of all people from Kenya, Africa, have access to clean drinking water

We learn in Kenya’s population of 53 million, about 28 million lack access to safe water, and the number is 41 million lack access to better sanitation. Data also reveals that the vast majority of those without access are from the rural segments of the population.

Waterborne diseases like typhoid, cholera, diarrhea, and dysentery are the realities of lack of access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.

WASH breaches the barrier keeping people from healthy spaces to conduct their lives in – moving them to where they have better health, with hope for progression to available healthcare as a next step.

Strengthening Families and Supporting Women and Children

The seeds of success in every nation on earth are best planted in women and children – Joyce Banda

No other success can compensate for failure in the home – David O. Mckay

Families in Kenya, Africa, who have valued the past traditional families with extended families taking a huge part in the upbringing of children, are now mirroring many aspects of Western and Eastern cultures. They are veering increasingly off the path of Christian morality and embracing some destructive forces that push the family into a dysfunctional role and away from being a stable foundation for African. The desire is to use Christ’s teachings and life as a model for teaching behaviors within the family and help support the people in bringing traditional and sacred bonds of the family unit to the forefront of African society.

We support governments and organizations with their eyes focused on strengthening families and protecting the rights of women and children.

We believe strong families, with safety for their most vulnerable members, are crucial to developing thriving communities and nations.

We encourage and seek to promote policies and practices that protect women and children and strengthen families. We seek positive change, aligning with these ideals.
